Katawa Shoujo - Walkthrough / Guide

Katawa Shoujo (visual novel) – 100% Complete Walkthrough / Game Guide for Routes of Emi, Hanako, Lilly, Rin, Shizune / Misha

I was planning to write my own walkthrough that will guide you to the routes of Emi, Hanako, Lilly, Rin, Shizune, and Miishabut then I searched and found several others, so I’m not sure anymore if it’s worth writing my own walkthrough. Maybe when I notice that this page gets a generous amount of views? And here it is – my Katawa Shoujo walkthrough.

Please take note that the paths / choices to character routes that I listed here are not necessarily the “best” choices to make. They are simply choices I took to achieve each given route.

Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough by Catzie

Okay, I’ve decided to write my own walkthrough anyway. Though I only have a few so far. πŸ™‚ More routes to come!

The first time I played Katawa Shoujo, I had a generic bad ending and I just wanna share the steps I took to get it:

Katawa Shoujo Bad Ending

*Why?
*Ask about the library
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*Hi! I’m new here. Hisao Nakai. We’re in the same class.
*She was cute
*Go talk with Hanako
*Maybe
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*I don’t really want to talk about it.

The above would have lead to Hanako’s (or possibly Lilly’s too) route, if I chose the other option for the last item.

I think you will always get such bad ending if you fail to be in the route of any of the Katawa Shoujo girls some scenes before the festival at the end of Act 1.

Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough - Hanako

Hanako Ikezawa Route(Good Ending) Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough

Hanako Route Good Ending – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Why?
*Ask about the library
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*Hi! I’m new here. Hisao Nakai. We’re in the same class.
*She was cute
*Go talk with Hanako
*Maybe/Yes (choice might not matter)
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*Take it easy (this choice appears if you chose Yes about getting regular exercise)
*Sorry, I’m not in very good condition.
*Go to the library

Hanako Route Good Ending – Act 2

*What do you think, Hanako?

Hanako Route Good Ending – Act 3 (Castling)

*Admit it
*Do you want to go into the city?

Hanako Route Good Ending – Act 4 (Scars)

*Agree with Lilly

The above led to what seems like a good ending to me. I missed a lot of scenes in the Hanako route though :-s I got the very same ending and Hanako Route percentage of completion did not rise even by 1 when I chose “Yes” instead of “Maybe” in Act 1. Two or three scenes were missing after I took the above paths (check at Main Menu -> Extras -> Library). After getting Hanako’s bad end, I completed all Hanako scenes.

*Go to the library

Hanako Route Bad Ending – Act 2

*I’ve done enough work for the council already

Hanako Route Bad Ending – Act 3 (Castling)

*Admit it
*How about we call it a day?

Hanako Route Bad Ending – Act 4 (Scars)

*Agree with Lilly

Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough - Lilly

Katawa Shoujo – Route of Lilly Satou (Good Ending)

Lilly Route Good Ending – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*Ask about the library
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Go talk with Hanako
*Maybe
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*Sorry, I’m not in very good condition.
*Go for a walk into town

Lilly Route Good Ending – Act 2 (Past)

*Tell the truth

Lilly Route Good Ending – Act 3 (Present)

*Humor him
*Keep it to myself
*Address it
*Talk about Hanako

Lilly Route Good Ending – Act 4 (Future)

*Mention the letter

The above gave me complete scenes in the Main Menu -> Extras -> Library -> Lilly section of the game.

Katawa Shoujo – Route of Lilly Satou (Neutral Ending)

Lilly Route Neutral Ending – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*Ask about the library
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Go talk with Hanako
*Maybe
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*Sorry, I’m not in very good condition.
*Go for a walk into town

Lilly Route Neutral Ending – Act 2 (Past)

*Tell the truth

Lilly Route Neutral Ending – Act 3 (Present)

*Humor him
*Keep it to myself
*Address it
*Talk about Hanako

Lilly Route Neutral Ending – Act 4 (Future)

*Drop the subject

If you choose to “Drop the subject” instead of “Mention the letter”, Lilly’s route ends 4 scenes earlier than the good ending.

Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough - Shizune

Shizune Hakamichi (Bad Ending) – Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough

Shizune Route (Bad Ending) – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*I think I got everything I know
*She has a point. Attack aggressively!
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Wait for Shizune and Misha to come up with a decision
*Maybe
*Don’t drag me into this! I’ve done my part!
*Try to dodge the subject

Shizune Route (Bad Ending) – Act 2 (Learning to Read)

Shizune Route (Bad Ending) – Act 3 (Sleight of Hand)

*Comfort Misha

Shizune Route (Bad Ending) – Act 4: To my other Self

Shizune Hakamichi (Good Ending) – Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough

Shizune Route (Good Ending) – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*I think I got everything I know
*She has a point. Attack aggressively!
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Wait for Shizune and Misha to come up with a decision
*Maybe
*Don’t drag me into this! I’ve done my part!
*Try to dodge the subject

Shizune Route (Good Ending) – Act 2 (Learning to Read)

Shizune Route (Good Ending) – Act 3 (Sleight of Hand)

*Refuse

Shizune Route (Good Ending) – Act 4: To my other Self

Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough - Rin

The following path to Rin’s story would end during Act 3. I believe that this is a bad end to her route. Good end coming soon. I have the feeling that there might even be a neutral ending to this, aside from good and bad, because tere are many choices to make in Rin’s route.

Rin Tezuka (Bad Ending)- Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough

Rin Route (Bad Ending) – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*I think I got everything I know
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Read my book
*Yes
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*Take it easy
*Sorry, I’m not in very good condition.
*I’m interested in the art club

Rin Route (Bad Ending) – Act 2 (Disconnect)

*You’re amazing!
I wish I was as good as you.
*It’s refreshing
*I want to be more like Rin
*Because it would be exciting.
What about me?

Rin Route (Bad Ending) – Act 3 (Distance)

*I want to support her
*Why did you turn away from being an artist?
*Then explain

OK, the following got me through Rin’s Act 3, unlike the previous one above. As expected, this still isn’t one of the happy / good ending of Rin’s story. It shows more scenes / CG arts than the previous set of choices though. Rin’s route seems to be more complex than the other characters’. Whew.

Rin Tezuka (Bad Ending 2) – Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough

Rin Route (Bad Ending 2) – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*I think I got everything I know
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Read my book
*Yes
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*Take it easy
*Sorry, I’m not in very good condition.
*I’m interested in the art club

Rin Route (Bad Ending 2) – Act 2 (Disconnect)

*You’re amazing!
*I wish I was as good as you.
*It’s refreshing
*I want to be more like Rin
*Because it would be exciting.
What about me?

Rin Route (Bad Ending 2) – Act 3 (Distance)

*I want to support her
*Why did you turn away from being an artist?
*It doesn’t matter

Rin Route (Bad Ending 2) – Act 4 (Dream)

*But aren’t you happy people are interested in your paintings?

Following the same paths to the Bad Ending 2 above, and changing only the last choice into “But if you found someone like that, then what?”, I found that the Rin story’s good ending could be achieved. However, some scenes will be missing.

So, here are the choices to get the good ending of Rin’s route while getting more scenes:

Rin Tezuka (Good Ending) – Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough

Rin Route (Good Ending) – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*I think I got everything I know
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Read my book
*Yes
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*Take it easy
*Sorry, I’m not in very good condition.
*I’m interested in the art club

Rin Route (Good Ending) – Act 2 (Disconnect)

*You’re amazing!
*I wish I was as good as you.
*It makes me feel like I’m stuck
*I want to be more like Rin
*I think you’d be a big hit
*What about me?

Rin Route (Good Ending) – Act 3 (Distance)

*I want to be with her more
*Is that why you’re being so supportive of Rin?
*I need to understand

Rin Route (Good Ending) – Act 4 (Dream)

*But if you found someone like that, then what?

OK, so one more character walkthrough left – Emi’s! My game is currently 85% complete. πŸ™‚

Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough - Emi

To get to Emi’s route in Act 2, follow this path:

Emi Ibarazaki (Good Ending) – Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough

Emi Route Good Ending – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*I think I got everything I know
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Read my book
*Yes
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*Go for it

Emi Route Good Ending – Act 2 (Form)

*Offer to run with Emi

Emi Route Good Ending – Act 3 (Perspective)

*Press Emi
*I suppose I can spare a few minutes
*Sure, why not?
*Talk to her mom

Emi Route Good Ending – Act 4 (Motion)

(no options)

After choosing the options above, I have 1% left to get a hundred percent completion of the game. I checked Extras -> Library -> Emi and found I’m missing one scene after “Guess who’s coming… Never mind.” I wonder if I should get to the bad ending of the route to get that scene. I’ll post my choices as soon as I find out.

What follows gave me the same good ending for Emi’s story, plus the scene I was missing. So I *guess* this is the better path to take for Emi’s good ending:

Emi Ibarazaki (Good Ending 2 / Other way to get a good ending) – Katawa Shoujo Walkthrough

Emi Route Good Ending 2 – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)

*Yeah, of course.
*I think I got everything I know
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
*She wasn’t cute
*Read my book
*Yes
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
*Go for it

Emi Route Good Ending 2 – Act 2 (Form)

*Offer to run with Emi

Emi Route Good Ending 2 – Act 3 (Perspective)

*Press Emi
*No, I have other things to worry about
*Give in and let Misha know

Emi Route Good Ending 2 – Act 4 (Motion)

(no options)

Completing my one missing scene in Katawa Shoujo

I was expecting to get 100% completion of Katawa Shoujo after finishing Emi’s route, the only story I wasn’t done with yet, and getting ALL her scenes. But I was wrong. I still need 1 more percentage at this point! I checked Extras -> Library again to find out why and learned that I’m missing a scene in Act 1 after the one called “Home Field Advantage”. I’ll do an update when I figure out how to get the missing scene.

The missing scene in my Library was “Slow Recovery”, a scene where Misha bugs Hisao. πŸ™‚ The set of choices I made to be led to that scene follows. (Katawa Shoujo Kenji Route?)

*Yeah, of course
*I think I got everything I need to know -OR- Ask about Shizune’s deafness
*She has a point. Attack aggressively!
*I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you
*She was cute -OR- She wasn’t cute
*Wait for Shizune and Misha to come to a decision
*Yes
*Don’t drag me into this! I’ve done my part!
*Go for it

So, those are the choices to make to get to the “Slow Recovery” scene.

To get to either the Shizune or Emi (or Rin?) route, choose:
*I don’t want to talk about it, okay?

To get to the bad end with Kenji, choose:
*Yeah, I sure was having fun fun fun at the nurse’s office

That’s it. I checked my Katawa Shoujo Library once more and found that I had 100% completion. πŸ˜‰ I hope you have “fun fun fun” playing Katawa Shoujo. lol.

It’s possible that I made errors in my Katawa Shoujo walkthrough as I typed. If you notice any mistake, kindly let me know so I can correct it. πŸ™‚

Scroll down a bit to find some Katawa Shoujo walkthroughs that I listed down. If you know or have a good Katawa Shoujo walkthrough / guide, it would be great if you could post the link to it in the comments section.

Katawa Shoujo Β Walkthroughs

I’m wondering if I’m the only one who thinks Rin always talks like she’s high or something. XD

Plan to make a “Public-Safe Patch” or “All Ages Patch” for Katawa Shoujo

Katawa Shoujo, despite having an option to disable ad*lt content, still includes graphic n*dity and matured statements at some points of the game. What if you play Katawa Shoujo during your free time at school or at work (yes there are *some* lenient schools and offices), thinking it’s all safe because you did choose to disable ad*content, and then your jaw drops as you see a “nekkid” (lol) character sprite on Katawa Shoujo which you are playing in full screen? No good. You might get yourself in trouble. I don’t know how it’s seen in other countries, but ours is a conservative one. So we thought it would be cool if we could release a version/patch of Katawa Shoujo that would be safe for players of all ages, or at least a version/patch that would be a little more safe to play in certain places because it lacks graphic n*dity. This is still only a plan. We are hoping that we could achieve our goals – remove graphics of unclad characters and remove/replace matured statements, and that the developer of the game would give us permission to release such version/patch of Katawa Shouojo.

Katawa Shoujo “All Ages” Update (April 1, 2012):
We tried some stuffs and successfully made a version of Katawa Shoujo where the NSFW graphics are no longer visible. We just show a pitch black screen instead of the no-no ones. The explicit dialogues are still present though, so I guess it’s partially safe for work… and school. πŸ™‚ This no-n*dity version of Katawa Shoujo is STRICTLY for our personal use only. According to the license of Katawa Shoujo we’re only allowed to distribute an edited version of the game if we get permission from the copyright holder.

I you liked this Katawa Shoujo walkthrough then you might also like the Inotia 4 Walkthrough.

    1. I haven’t pylead a sim game since Sim City 2000, but yeah, it is pertty old school in feel. It’s not too deep or complex, so that’s kind of perfect for me because sim games tend to overwhelm me. Plus it’s good for mobile gaming, and easy to play in short bursts (though in practice, I’d play it for more than 20 minutes a session (sometimes hours).

  1. well I thought there was no good ending for rin but I found one unfortunately that not in this Walkthrough, but your Walkthrough was realy helpfull I realy apriciate it alot, it did help navigate to avoid those bad ending loops.

    1. Hi. I checked my guide for Rin’s good ending and played it again, but had no problem getting her route. Strange. πŸ™

I followed these choices and didn’t get the Kenji ending:

Rin Route (Good Ending) – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)
      *Yeah, of course.
      *I think I got everything I know
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
      *She wasn’t cute
      *Read my book
      *Yes
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
      *Take it easy
*Sorry, I’m not in very good condition.
*I’m interested in the art club

  2. I swear Lilly’s put me in tears it was so sweet, it just hits you with such emotion (Though Emi was my first, I really did enjoy everyone’s to be honest). The whole game was amazing, I am deeply saddened that they don’t have plans to make another one, yet I am ever so grateful to have played Katawa Shoujo. Personally Katawa Shoujo is one of the best things I’ve read/played and truly felt a part of. (Makes me miss the classic RPGs)

The guide was fantastic and helpful to a fault. Amazing job!

*As to you’re comment on Rin that would be the paint fumes.

    1. No matter what I do, I can’t get the good ending for Lilly, even though I followed all the steps, could I get some help?

    2. We decided that what we’re going to do now is to skip KS 2 entirely and go straight for creating Katawa Shoujo 3. From how our planning is going, it’s looking to be absolutely magnificent, with so many amazing features and stories. We’re really excited and confident about this project and hope you’re too. Look forward to hearing more about that in about a year.-this is a quote from the katawa blogspot page. so next march KS3 should come out.

  3. I was looking for that last 1%… I’d completed the rest of the game myself, no walkthroughs whatsoever, but that final missing scene was what I needed. Thanks for that.

    Hanako’s my favorite, BTW.

  4. There’s another ending to Hanako, I guess maybe you already got it. You get it by doing everything you do to get the “Good Ending” but when you talk to Lilly you choose to ‘trust yourself’ instead of agrring with her. It get you to a very nice and sweet ending ^_^

  5. and thank you for the guide, I did the Hanako story by myself but I wasn’t sure how many endings or which girls you could choose, and what to do to get to their endings, not to mention gettin all the endings, I only got 2 from Hanako, and never got to the Bad Ending one, so this REALLY helps, while still keeping things fun. Thanks again!

  6. personally, Hanako is defiantly my favorite, But Emi is a close second. I thought all of the characters were well made. This game left me thirsting for. There will be big manly tears if another comes out~

  7. I stumbled in to Emi’s by accident. It was my first time playing and even though I wanted to know more about Hanako, Emi’s route was satisfying. I’m also kind of confused. I only have 26% completion, but I got the good ending. What exactly does that mean?

    1. It means that you should start playing the other character’s routes πŸ˜‰
Each route (including Act 1) is about 20% of the game, so you probably got 6% from Act 1 and 20% from Emi

  8. Hi, I noticed something wrong.
It says Rin Route (BAD ENDING) – Act 4 (Dream)
Instead of good ending. Is it still right? even if it says bad ending

Rin Route (Good Ending) – Act 1 (Life Expentancy)
    *Yeah, of course.
    *I think I got everything I know
*It’s a trap, it’s smarter to play defensively here
*I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you
    *She wasn’t cute
    *Read my book
    *Yes
*Hey, come on. Cut me and Lilly some slack…
    *Take it easy
*Sorry, I’m not in very good condition.
*I’m interested in the art club

Rin Route (Good Ending) – Act 2 (Disconnect)
    *You’re amazing!
*I wish I was as good as you.
*It makes me feel like I’m stuck
*I want to be more like Rin
    *I think you’d be a big hit
    *What about me?

Rin Route (Good Ending) – Act 3 (Distance)

*I want to be with her more
*Is that why you’re being so supportive of Rin?
    *I need to understand

Rin Route (BAD ENDING) – Act 4 (Dream)

*But if you found someone like that, then what?

  9. You kinda messed up with Rin’s walkthough, not the options. But with the Act 4 Good ending. It says “Bad Ending 2” rather than “Good Ending”. So yeah, thought I might just toss that out there.

  10. yeah. i have a problem about this game. i always end up being friends with lily and hanako. i don’t know what kind of ending it is. so anyway i will try using your walkthrough maybe i can finally have a good ending with them. XD

  11. oh hi there it’s me again. well you see i have a little bit problem. i tried both emi, shizune and hanako’s path but i still end up stuck on 92% percent

  12. i love u!!! i couldnt get the scene of act 1 “Slow Recovery”…i tried few days and i couldnt… u.u
thank u very much :D. now i have the game in 100%…i can see last picture :/

  13. after reading all the walkthrough paths…
i realized that emi has no bad ending
is it true that she doesnt have 1???

    1. Yes, she does have a bad ending. If you ‘ignore the issue’ instead of giving in and letting Misha know during the ‘Instant Replay’ scene in act 3, Emi and Hisao break up. It doesn’t provide any other extra special scenes, though, so it’s just a good idea to go straight for Emi’s good ending.

  14. Rin’s route was a tad confusing at first… I was happy going through it till’ they started smoking. That was kind of a stupid input in the game but whatever, she’s adorable.

  15. I tried to follow the Shizune route, but it seems no matter what you do prior, if you chose to be interested in the art club, you go into Rin’s route. πŸ™‚

  16. Hi, when I followed your directions for Shizune’s good route, I got what I think was the kenji route and died. Asking about shizunes deafness helps it a lot better, from what I’ve played. Just trying to save people 2 and a half hours aha. So, kthxbai. :3

  17. Thank you for the awesome guide, it really helped a ton! I noticed after completing Shizune’s route (the good way)that i am missing almost all of act 3 (everything between Force Feedback and Confrontation). Do I need to go the bad route and comfort Misha to get these options (im guessing that i do)?

  18. I found another key

Alt turns on the skip dialogue like Ctrl but without needing to keep it pressed

  19. I just finished the game and I have to say that this guide was exceptionally helpful for Ren’s route. It was annoying getting that last 3%.

My favorite route would have to be Lily’s very touching story. I shed some manly tears during this route.

  20. On Rin’s good ending, in Act 2, it gives you a choice at the beginning, and that choice is either to say, “You’re amazing!” or “I wish I was as good as you.” In your walkthrough, you put both. There is only one choice when that comes up. After that, your walkthruogh is fine, but I’m puzzled. Which one am I supposed to say if you put both?

  21. I’m so embarrassed by this but through the hanako playthrough, Which had been my first, I found myself becoming very involved with her and hisao and admittedly I believe that I love her which is lame as she doesn’t exist :'(

  22. This is the best galge I ever played, even though I try usually to avoid those eroge scenes in games, in this one, even those made sense for the situations and weren’t really that *** oriented. I am really glad someone told me about this game.

  23. Um, on emi’s route, you said that the second good option it better~ but you have to do both routes to get all of her scenes~ just thought id say πŸ˜‰ each one misses out 2.

  24. completed hanako bad ending and good ending just completed 9%
i try playing with my choice and get emy good ending route 1% πŸ˜€

  25. completed hanako bad ending and good ending just completed 9%
i try playing with my choice and get emy good ending route 1% πŸ˜€ .

  26. Hi, I just want to ask, how to unlock the scene after the ‘BADAAN!’ scene in act 3 for the Rin route. I cant seem to unlock it,its the last one in the route for the total completion. Could you help me out? Thanks. PS: You can see it in the Extras>Library section in the main menu

  27. I already have 100% but I found out that there are some images of reward and I have nothing in the gallery, could you help me?

  28. for some unknown reason I could never get into Shizune’s route, with your help the impossible finally became reality! thanks for the guide

(I’m from Brazil I used the translator to read your guide and write this message)
