Workaround if Adobe Photoshop CS5 won’t save files because of screen resolution

I just installed Adobe Photoshop CS5. I finished the graphic I was working on and so, hit Ctrl + S. Nothing happened. Chose Save, as well as Save As from the File menu, and still nothing happened. Save for Web and Devices works, but I needed to save my file in .PSD format.

After some Google search I read that this happens if your screen resolution does not meet the requirement of Adobe Photoshop CS5. Click here to check system requirements.

I also read that it could be that something went wrong during the installation of this program.

Resizing my screen to 1024×768 is impossible with the device I am using. If we are on the same boat, a tip that I can share with you is close the tab of the graphic you are working on, and then choose YES when you are asked if you want to save the file. This is not a very convenient method, but it will save your file. I guess it’s a workaround that is best if you are about to save a new image.

It’s not the best solution if your problem is that Adobe Photoshop CS5 won’t let you save files. But the tip I gave you is a workaround. Perhaps the best solution is to install Adobe Photoshop CS5 on a computer that can display at least 1024 x 768 screen resolution?

I’m not sure if this problem is also encountered in other Adobe CS5 softwares. Only Photoshop is upgraded to CS5 in my computer.

  1. “Perhaps the best solution is to install Adobe Photoshop CS5 on a computer that can display at least 1024 x 768 screen resolution?” Perhaps the best idea is that people who don’t know what they are talking about should not attempt to write programs or explain them. The screen resolution is almost always limited by the pysical screen bein used, not the OS. My computer can display a higher resolution, I just choose to use a small screen sometimes. Maybe if Adobe would quite spending so much time playing around, adding people, and forcing any potential competitors from the market, they would create a program, any program, that actually works. A save dialog will fit on a screen half that size. The real reason is probably that none of the programmers had a screen with a max res smaller than 1024×768 and they are all too stupid to calculate and scale components so they just hardcoded screen sizes.

    1. Quoting what I said on the blog entry and following it with “people who don’t know what they are talking about should not attempt to write programs or explain them” makes me think you are referring to ME. But I hope I’m wrong.

I simply posted the workaround that helped me because I thought it might work for other people who have the same problem.

  2. I currently have the same problem and I was starting to worry that there’s no other way but to re-install – which is such a tedious time consuming task.. your workaround worked for me just as well. Thank you so much! 🙂

  3. I was wondering if you also encountered the fact that the Save for Web window does not fit the screen? If so, do you have any solution to this?
